NEWS UPDATE
SOCIETY OF MILITARY WIDOWS
INFORMATION ON A WEBSITE FOR NURSING HOME ABUSE:

The Nursing Home Abuse Center (www.nursinghomeabusecenter.org) is an
informational website created to help the elderly and their loved ones
who are concerned about nursing home abuse and neglect. Our site covers
everything from signs of nursing home abuse to what steps to take if you
suspect abuse.

Nursing home abuse is terrible whenever it happens, but when our own
military veterans are abused it just doesn't get much worse than that.
In light of recent news stories about our veterans being abused in
nursing homes we have added a new section to our website on the specific
topic of how nursing home abuse has affected our veterans
(http://www.nursinghomeabusecenter.org/veterans-and-nursing-home-abuse/). We
hope to draw increased attention to this problem and do our part toward
ending abuse of our veterans in nursing homes, as well as offer our
website's helpful information to those affected by this tragedy.

JESSIE BRUNDIGE:CONVENTION NEWS5 APRIL 10

Welcome to Oklahoma for October 2010. We have planned an enjoyable week for all. Our theme this year is, what else, OKLAHOMA. We have 2 optional tours setup for you and I think you will enjoy both. On Monday we will travel by bus, locally, to the Mattie Beal Home. Mattie aquired her land in the Oklahoma Land Run and the home has been
preserved. A young college student will portray Mattie Beal in a short Monologue. Then to the Great Plains Museum. These two sites will be opposite each other as the MB Home cannot accomodate all at once, but you will be able to see both. Then on to Historic Medicine Park founded by Senator Elmer Thomas on July 4, 1908, and was Oklahoma's first planned tourism resort. It became known as the "Jewel of the Southwest". It was known as the playground of the State's rich, famous, and notorious. Outlaws and horse thieves mixed with noted politicians and businessmen, familiies and socialites in the new cobblestone community. Lunch will be at the "Old Plantation". More info when you get here.

The second optional tour will take you to Oklahoma City, our state capitol. We will visit the Oklahoma City National Monument and Museum. This is the site of the McVey bombing. Then on to a Bricktown Restaurant called Nonna's for a relaxing lunch. There is a small gift shop adjoining. Then on to the 45th Division Museum for a tour covering history from 1541 through WWII, the Korean War and Desert Storm.

There will also be some touring at Fort Sill after our Memorial Service at the Fort Sill National Cemetery and lunch at the Patriot Club. This is covered in the registration fee. We have not forgotten the meetings, teatime, and formalities so come one and all and have a good time in O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A in October 10--17.

Daisy Jackson, President of Chapter #38, Fort Meade, has had good luck attracting new members by advertising in the Ft. Meade "Soundoff!" newspaper for her area.   If this resource is available in your area, please see if you can put a small announcement of the General Meetings and lunches with dates, and include a contact phone number.

Some larger papers won't insert these announcements, as the activity is not open to the general public, so check with yours.  Anything we can do to advertise our group is welcome.  Thanks, Daisy.
